Sony AIBO ERS-7 Robot Dog - It Never Stops Learning
There are a few robot dogs on the market but the Sony AIBO is one of the most
famous. With its powerful computer chip, AIBO can learn to interact and respond
to people and objects in its environment.
AIBO has a definite personality that continues to grow the longer he lives with
you. He learns how to respond to praise and to criticism and will stop doing
activities that you disapprove of. AIBO continues to add data to its memory
and will continue to develop its personality indefinitely. However, you can
set it back to the puppy stage at any time.
AIBO is preprogrammed for six feelings --
- happiness,
- sadness,
- fear,
- dislike,
- surprise, and
- anger.
Its environment influences its feelings and contributes to the development of
its personality. It displays the different feelings and typical dog fashion.
You can teach AIBO tricks just as you would teach a real dog tricks. For
example, you teach AIBO to fetch a ball. Each time he succeeds at the task he
becomes more adept at doing it again.
AIBO can recognize objects in its environment thanks to the sensors in its eyes
and nose. The nose sensor is used to detect physical objects like walls and
edges, while the camera and microphone is used to detect and become accustomed
to faces and voices.
AIBO can display emotions thanks to the LED lights on its face. Expressions like
joy and anger are shown with changing light and color patterns. Expressions are
also shown with body movements like wagging tails and alert ears and AIBO can
also “speak” to show you how he feels.
AIBO operates on a rechargeable battery, and he knows when the battery is low.
The charging station is a black-and-white pole that AIBO can recognize and find
by himself, so you never need to worry about AIBO running out of juice.
Just like a real dog, the more you interact with AIBO the more he learns.
This is truly an amazing and educational toy for both adults and children.
