Creative Zen Micro - It can hold 1000+ Songs
The Zen Micro is a full-featured
MP3 player with a host of functions. It has been thoughtfully designed for
comfort as well as for usability -- the easy-to-read display gives you lots of
information makes it easy to navigate and find songs.
It is inevitable that the Creative Zen Micro be compared with Apple's iPod. They
are similar in shape and storage capacities, and have similar navigation
systems. But whereas the iPod ties you into Apple's music service (iTunes), the
Zen Micro can be used with a wider variety of online music stores including
MSN and Musicmatch.
In addition, the Zen Micro has FM radio, voice recording as well as standard MP3
player features such as equalization and an easy-to-use removable data device
for your PC.
The sound specs on this MP3 player are superb. The signal to noise ratio is 98
dB across the full audio spectrum. There are eight preset equalizer settings and
songs can be set to repeat, resume, or play randomly.
Supported audio formats include MP3, WMA, and WAV. Songs can be recorded in
various bit rates for extra storage capacity. For example, the 5 GB model can
hold 1,250 songs (83 hours) at 128 kbps or 2,500 songs (166 hours) at
lower-fidelity 64 kbps (MP3/WMA. So it is placed in the
1000 songs+ category
The Creative Zen Micro is available in three sizes -- 4 GB, 5 GB, or 6 GB. It
also comes in a choice of 10 colors for matching any personality. The screen is
attractive and functional -- the backlit LCD gives you access to all the
settings and allows you to easily navigate through the hard drive to find
whatever songs you are looking for.
The FM radio has 32 station presets and the built-in FM radio recorder allows
you to record your favorite shows for later listening. You can record up to 10
hours of voice with the built-in microphone -- perfect for students wishing to
record lectures or businesspeople who want to record meetings.
The Zen Micro is powered with a lithium-ion rechargeable battery which can be
replaced so that you always have music on the go. The battery is powerful enough
to provide 12 hours of continuous music playback.
There are not very many drawbacks to the Creative Zen Micro. There are a few
glitches in the operating system which are fixed by downloading the latest
firmware from the Creative web site. Another negative is the sensitivity of the
navigation buttons. Even when the sensitivity is set to low, it is easy to
accidentally navigate to the next song or pause the track. This can be overcome
by setting the player on "hold".
