The irock! 830 is a compact MP3 player with a built-in FM radio. It features
great sound specs, a long battery life, an equalizer, easy-to-use software and
128MB of memory. All this is packaged in a sleek, attractive case which is just
under 3 inches long. It fits unobtrusively into your pocket so you can have
music on the go at all times.
The irock! 830 has some great numbers when it comes to audio playback. The
signal-to-noise ratio is less than 90 decibels with total harmonic distortion of
less than 0.25% over the full frequency range of 20 Hz to 20 kHz. The ear buds
are little bit weak when reproducing bass sounds but the midrange and highs are
crystal clear.
This MP3 player can handle both WMA and MP3 files in a variety of bit rates.
MP3s can be encoded from 8 kbps to 320 kbps while WMA can be from 5 kbps to 192
kbps. The lower bit rates can be used to encode speech files so you can use your
irock! 830 as an audio book.
The 128MB of memory in the irock! 830 is enough to hold about four hours of
music. There's no memory slot for extra memory cards, but it's easy to update
the music on the MP3 player using the software which is included in the package.
And don't forget, there is an FM radio which can be used if you ever want to
hear something different.
There are 20 memory presets for the FM radio, and new presets can be set using
the software. The software that is included with the irock! 830 includes
utilities for ripping music from CDs and encoding audio files into MP3 in WMA
formats. The software can also be used to organize your music collection anyway
you like.
The irock! 830 connects your computer through a USB 1.1 interface. Although not
as fast as the USB 2.0 interface, the 1.1 is adequate for the 128MB of memory.
Power is supplied through a single AA battery which gives continuous playback
for up to 30 hours. The decision to use the larger AA batteries over the more
commonly used AAA batteries was a good one -- the extra power gives more
playback time.
For a compact MP3 player with easy-to-use controls, the irock! 830 is hard to
beat. It's attractive, stylish, and available at a great price.
