The irock! 520 is an inexpensive MP3 personal player with one of the smallest
memory capacities of the market today. The basic unit has just 64MB of memory
and it can be expanded with a SmartMedia card for up to 192MB in total. This is
enough for 3 1/2 hours of music -- suitable for those with basic digital music
collections.
The irock! 520 is housed in an attractive case which is just 2.5 inches by 2.8
inches in size. It can be unobtrusively carried in your pocket wherever you go.
It is powered with a single AAA battery that gives up to eight hours of
continuous playback time of your favorite digital audio. The AAA batteries are
inexpensive and widely available so you can always be powered up and ready to
listen to music.
The sound on the irock! 520 music device is great! It features a signal-to-noise
ratio of 90 decibels in total harmonic distortion of less than 0.25%. There is a
built-in equalizer for customizing the sound of your music and a bass boost
function for strengthening the low frequencies.
The irock! 520 comes with a complete software package for managing your music
collection. You can use the software to rip music from your CDs and to encoded
it into MP3 format. Music can be transferred from your computer to the MP3
player with the USB connector.
The LCD display on the irock! 520 gives you basic information about the track
number and the timing. There is no support for ID3 tags so you can see the song
title or information about the album. One drawback about the display is the lack
of a backlight so using the MP3 player at night is difficult.
Music can be playback in order or randomly on the irock! 520. Titles can be
repeated individually or the whole collection can be repeated. If you are using
your MP3 player to playback audio books or extended audio files, there is a
bookmark function allowing you to mark your place. You can easily return to the
same spot at a later time.
Although short on features, the irock! 520 is available at a fantastic price.
Although the 64MB of memory and a basic unit is minuscule by today's standards,
the expansion slot brings it up to adequate size. If you're looking for a basic
MP3 player, the irock! 520 is worth checking out.
