device which offers great sound in and attractive case. It has 128MB of internal
memory and a card slot which can accept an additional 128MB. That gives you
enough storage space for 4 1/2 hours of music.
The irock! 530 measures just 2.5 inches by 2.8 inches. It can easily fit in your
pocket so you can have your music with you everywhere you go. The sound specs
are impressive -- 90 decibels signal-to-noise ratio with a total harmonic
distortion of less than 0.25%. There is an equalizer so you can customize your
sound, and a bass boost function for bringing out strong low frequencies.
You can use the USB interface on the irock! 530 for transferring music from your
computer. The software package which is included with the MP3 player has
functions for ripping music from CDs and encoding it in MP3 format. If you have
a Macintosh computer, you can use the free iTunes software for managing your
music collection.
Unfortunately, the irock! 530 does not have support for ID3 tags. This means you
cannot see the song title or information about the artist or album. The display
simply shows you the track number and timing information. On the other hand,
there is a bookmark function which is useful if you use the MP3 player for
listing to extended audio files such as audio books.
Another complaint about the irock! 530 is the lack of a backlit screen for the
LCD display. If you use your MP3 player in low light conditions, this can be a
drawback.
The irock! 530 is powered with a single AAA battery which gives up to eight
hours of continuous music playback. The bass boost function will cut back on
your playback time, but only by about an hour overall. AAA batteries are widely
available and inexpensive, so you can always count on having a power supply
close at hand.
Although not one of the sexiest MP3 players on the market, the irock! 530 is a
functional unit with adequate memory and playback functions. It is available at
a great price, so if you're looking for a basic MP3 player, the irock! 530 is a
good choice.
