Samsung YH-820 - Samsung the miracle company
Every MP3 player on the market plays MP3 files -- it's just natural. Most
players also have support for other types of audio files including WAV, WMA, and
ASF. Very few players support the Ogg Vorbis format, which is a shame because it
offers very good sound quality with smaller file sizes than MP3.
The Samsung YH-820 does offer Ogg Vorbis support as well as MP3, WMA, and JPEG
picture format. It has a 5 GB hard drive and a 1.5 inch color LCD display as
well as an FM radio and a built-in microphone for voice recording.
This is an attractive MP3 player and the 65,000 color display makes it useful
for looking at your pictures as you listen to music. The display also shows you
information about the current song being played and allows you to navigate
around the hard drive for finding specific songs.
The sound quality of this MP3 player is quite good but doesn't match the specs
of some of the other players like the Creative Zen Micro. The Samsung YH-820 is
rated at 85 dB signal to noise ratio with total harmonic distortion of 0.2%.
There is a user adjustable equalizer which comes with several presets for
different types of music.
The player is powered with a rechargeable lithium-ion battery which is eight
hours of playback time on one charge. This is a fairly short time compared with
other players on the market. For example, the Apple iPod Mini has the playback
time of 18 hours on a single charge. The eight hour playback time of the Samsung
YH-820 means that you will have to recharge the battery almost every day.
Like most other MP3 players in its class, the Samsung YH-820 can also double as
a data storage device for your computer. When connected to the computer through
the USB 2.0 interface any kind of computer data can be stored to the player. The
software which is included in the package allows you to organize your music
collection and create playlists. Songs can be transferred to the MP3 player by
dragging and dropping.
While not one of the best MP3 players on the market, the Samsung YH-820 offers
solid performance and a decent sound. It is worth taking a look at.
